September Family Events Schedule!
Dear All Star parents!
We are looking for volunteers to help with our upcoming book fair! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Mrs. Boualavong at lboualavong@sps186.org
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Dates: 9/9/24-9/13/24
Location: Teacher Lounge during school hours except Thursday, we will also be open from 6:30-7:30pm

Happy Friday All Stars! Just a friendly reminder that ATTENDANCE MATTERS! When kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month, even when the absences are excused, it can negatively impact them. These absences can affect kids as early as kindergarten. Students who are chronically absent in kindergarten have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind in reading. This is critical because research shows that when students can read on grade level by the end of third grade, the transition period where students go from learning to read to reading to learn, they are three to four times more likely to graduate high school and attend college, post-graduate, or professional development classes than their peers who struggle with reading. Some tips for helping your student get to school on time every day: • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before • Share ideas with other parents for getting to school on time. If you need assistance with attendance issues, please reach out to me at 217-525-3220 or lboualavong@sps186.org.
I will be happy to help you come up with ideas on how to improve your child’s attendance!
