All students and staff in summer programs are safe. Buses will run at the normal time, but routes may take longer due to traffic or blocked streets. Families are welcome to pick up students early. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

PURCHASE OF SPRINGFIELD HIGH SCHOOL PARKING PERMIT 2023-24 Please thoroughly read the following: Student parking spaces on the SHS campus are quite limited when compared with requests. On-street parking is also limited due to the proximity of SHS to the state complex. We strongly suggest that only students who have a definite NEED to drive to school should be allowed to do so. Senior parking permits will be available for purchase on August 11th from 8:30-11:30 am and 1:30-3:00 pm in the main office (room 204). The cost is $75 (cash, check or money order). Items needed: valid driver's license, vehicle registration and valid insurance card. Permits must be purchased in person. Remember that parking spots are a privilege and are based on last year’s attendance, grades and discipline. Students with grades less than a C average and/or students with multiple discipline referrals and poor attendance during 2022-2023 school year are NOT eligible. If you ARE eligible and do NOT pick up your permit during the allotted times and if there are any remaining spaces, you may enter the random drawing with all eligible juniors. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS! Assuming that requests are similar to past years, parking permits will not be available to freshmen or sophomores. On August 14th eligible juniors will be allowed to enter their name in a lottery for any remaining parking spots between the hours of 8:30-11:30 am and 1:30-3:00 pm. Remember parking spaces are limited so come in and sign up quickly. Student parking spaces are the gravel lot and the unnumbered spots in the commons lot - ABSOLUTELY NO student parking in any Fire Lane, Sidewalk, or Numbered Spaces. Students must have a permit to park on school property and may not park in NUMBERED or VISITOR spots at ANY time. Vehicles that do not display the SHS parking permit will be tagged the first time and towed from the lot the second time at the owner's expense. Vehicles brought on to school property are subject to search. Those who purchase a permit for another individual or otherwise abuse this parking policy will have the privilege of parking in the student lot withdrawn indefinitely. Under the Illinois School code, “to maintain order and security in the schools, school authorities may inspect and search places and areas such as lockers, desks, parking lots and other school property and equipment owned or controlled by the school, as well as personal effects left in those places and area by students, without notice to or the consent of the student, and without a search warrant.” 105ILCS5/10/22.6(e).

You don't want to miss this! Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum collected our student's artwork and then had the pieces professionally framed and hung to create an exhibit at the museum. All of the pieces of art were either created by an African American artist or they depict the African American experience. We appreciate the AAHM & their commitment to showcasing our students' work in celebrating Black History. You can visit the gallery February 18th - March 31st, Tuesday - Saturday 12:00 pm - 4:00 p.m.
