Good morning, Springfield High! Today is January 17, 2023

After school tutoring will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm in room 160.

Anyone interested in being in the spring musical, please come to the student/parent meeting on Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. You will have a chance to meet the new director, some of the staff, and find out what musical we will be doing. Musical synopsis and character descriptions will be available as well as song and reading cuts for auditions. Dates will be given for auditions, call-backs, cast meeting, read-through, and first rehearsal. There will be time for Q & A.

High School Students, You are invited to attend the Superintendent’s Student Roundtable’s Unity Day 2023 on Saturday, January 28, before the last day of the Boys and Girls City Basketball Tournament. The event will run from Noon to 2pm in the lower level of the Bank of Springfield Center. Participants receive a "Lincoln Up Together” event t-shirt, lunch and get to participate in fun games and activities. Please register during your lunch shift this Tuesday-Friday, January 10-13, or by scanning the QR code on one of the posters hanging around school. Registration is limited so don’t wait. Register today! 

Any Boy or Girl interested in competing for the track and field teams this Spring, practice will begin on Monday January 30th for athletes not involved in a winter sport.  There will be an informational meeting after school on Tuesday January 24th in the Driver’s Ed Room (room 128).  Please see Coach Cotner or Coach Hale with any questions.  

Sophomores and Juniors interested in CACC, please bring your parents/guardians and join us for an open house tomorrow from 5-7 pm at CACC, 2201 Toronto Rd., Springfield, IL. 62712.  This is a great opportunity to tour the labs, meet the teachers, talk with current students, and see if CACC is where you want to be for your Junior and Senior year. We look forward to seeing you! National Honor Society is ready to admit new members for the spring of 2023. Current 11th and 12th graders, who are not currently members of NHS, can apply. A list of eligible applicants is posted on Canvas, outside the Main Office, and outside rooms 153A and 356. Applications can be picked up with Mr. Kramer in 153A and will be due Thursday, Feb. 23. Any questions see Mrs. Taft or Mr. Kramer. 

Art club will meet today in room 320 until 4:30.

Congratulations to the Springfield High Showchoir program.  Scarlet Harmony received 3rd Runner-up in their Division.  IN Session received 3rd Runner-up in the Small Mixed Group Division.  Special shout out to Noah Holzmacher for receiving Best Performer in the show.  Their next showchoir competition will be Saturday, February 4th. Scarlet Harmony performs at 9:30am and IN Session performs at 1pm. 

GSA will meet after school this Friday in room 366 instead of next week because of city tournament. Check the Padlet on the SHS activities page for this semester’s meeting dates.

Congratulations to the Scholastic Bowl team and their 3rd place win at Southwestern High School on Saturday. All 3 teams played well.

Reminder there is a Feminist club meeting after school in Mrs. Eaton’s room 366.

Springfield High Wrestling was victorious on Friday claiming City Championship honors for the second straight year. Senators went 3-0 on the night in dominating fashion defeating Sacred Heart-Griffin 69-11,  Lanphier 51-30, and Southeast 56-24.  Individual wrestlers who went undefeated on the night were Kaden Rios, Alan Rodriguez, Gabe Ruvalcaba, Alex Souva, Armani Emery, Keyshaun Harris, and Jackson O’connor.

The Chess club will be meeting after school from 3:17 to 4:15 in Mr. Hull’s Room (Room 216)  this Friday to play and teach Chess! Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level!
