Good morning, Springfield High! Today is January 11, 2023

After school tutoring will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm in room 160.

Anyone interested in being in the spring musical, please come to the student/parent meeting on Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. You will have a chance to meet the new director, some of the staff, and find out what musical we will be doing. Musical synopsis and character descriptions will be available as well as song and reading cuts for auditions. Dates will be given for auditions, call-backs, cast meeting, read-through, and first rehearsal. There will be time for Q & A.

City T-shirt time! Today at lunch, order forms will be available in main office and Mr. Kramer’s office (153A).  Designs have not been finalized, those images will be shared as soon as possible. Your $40 order will get you t-shirts for four nights a rally towel and helps purchase other props. Orders will be due back to Mr Kramer by this Thursday. Speak to Mr Kramer if you need to arrange later payments, but would still like to order. 

Interested in Black History? Want to help represent SHS and share black history to your peers? If so, the district is again organizing a black history trivia competition between the three schools. The SHS team won two years ago, so it’s our year to take it back! Interested in competing? Email or talk to Mr Kramer (bkramer@sps186.org)

We also will begin planning for our Black History Month activities as a school. This will include possible trivia, information sharing, and the annual assembly. If interested, email or talk to Mr Kramer as well.

High School Students, You are invited to attend the Superintendent’s Student Roundtable’s Unity Day 2023 on Saturday, January 28, before the last day of the Boys and Girls City Basketball Tournament. The event will run from Noon to 2pm in the lower level of the Bank of Springfield Center. Participants receive a "Lincoln Up Together” event t-shirt, lunch and get to participate in fun games and activities. Please register during your lunch shift this Tuesday-Friday, January 10-13, or by scanning the QR code on one of the posters hanging around school. Registration is limited so don’t wait. Register today! 

GSA will meet tomorrow after school in Mrs. Eaton’s room. Join us to help plan activities for this semester.

Wrestling hosts Rochester and Jacksonville today before having its City Duals Friday at Lanphier.  Wrestling starts at 5 pm. 

Any girl interested in soccer there will be a meeting today after school in room 404.

Any Boy or Girl interested in competing for the track and field teams this Spring, practice will begin on Monday January 30th for athletes not involved in a winter sport.  There will be an informational meeting after school on Tuesday January 24th in the Driver’s Ed Room (room 128).  Please see Coach Cotner or Coach Hale with any questions.  

There will be a Crochet Club meeting today after school in Mrs. Taft's room, 356.

Sophomores and Juniors interested in CACC, please bring your parents/guardians and join us for an open house on January 19th from 5-7 pm at CACC, 2201 Toronto Rd., Springfield, IL. 62712.  This is a great opportunity to tour the labs, meet the teachers, talk with current students, and see if CACC is where you want to be for your Junior and Senior year. Seniors, local scholarship season has begun. Please be sure to consistently check Canvas and the scholarship tab for all local scholarships. We will also highlight via announcements some scholarships each week. Be sure to look for the Community Foundation scholarships that have 25 total scholarships SHS students can apply for. This week we will highlight four CFLL scholarships for if you have participated in: Camp Care-A-Lot, Girls on the Run, Girl Scouts, or Boys and Girls Club. Check Canvas or outside Mr. Kramer's office for links to apply.
