The Superintendent’s Student Roundtable is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year. The group provides a forum for youth to strengthen unity between all local high schools, and the community. Applications can be found at: https://forms.gle/iFToPEetKcRdkQfk9.  Returning members are asked to complete the form, also. 

All juniors and seniors are invited to the College Fair Field Trip at the State Fairgrounds on October 5th. Students provide their own transportation and are dismissed after third hour. Parent permission slips must be turned in by September 30th, and students must be passing their afternoon classes to attend. Juniors - use the green permission slip, Seniors - use the pink permission slip. Permission forms are available in the Guidance Office, room 104.

The 2022 SHS Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 15th. Doors open at 6:15 and all students must pass through a search and metal detectors to gain entry. If an SHS student is bringing an outside guest, the proper form must be filled out in its entirety and brought to the dance that evening. No exceptions on the form. All guests must have valid picture identification. Forms are yellow and available in the Guidance Office, room 104.

There will be an informational meeting for the Central Europe Trip Summer of 2024 next Wednesday night, September 21st in the SHS Library at 6:30 pm for parents and students.  Any questions email Mrs. Eaton at dleaton@sps186.org.

The Robotics Club will hold an informational meeting Monday after school in room 110.  If you can’t make the meeting please stop by and see Mr. Sutera.

French Club will be having its Back-to-School Party on Thursday, Sept. 22nd in Room 268 until 4pm.  Anyone can join French Club—see Madame Boltz with any questions.

Congratulations to seniors Katie Chen and Evalynn Reynolds who were named National Merit Semifinalists! SHS is proud of you both!

Attention Sophomores!!! If you did not receive a Jostens Ring Design Kit in the mail, stop by the guidance office to pick one up. Jostens will be in the commons on Tuesday, September 20th from 7:30 am-12:45 pm and will return on Wednesday, September 21st from 7:30 am-8:20 am During this time, Jostens will collect your class ring order forms and down payments.  

The boys and girls cross county team competed at the Peoria Notre Dame invite on Saturday. The Varsity girls were led by Maddie Kim. The Fresh/Soph girls were led by Phoebe Barnes. The JV girls were led by Melia Muschinske. On the boys side, Finn Loken led the varsity boys. Clayton Borah was the top finisher for the fresh/soph boys and Arnav Nagarecha was the top finisher for the JV boys. The teams next compete at the Springfield High School invite on Saturday at Lincoln Park. Races begin at 9:45 am on Saturday.

The boys golf team started off Friday posting a 282 team score which led the field.  Peyton Woods and Jake Baldin both finished with 69s to lead the tournament.  James Oh shot a personal best with a 72 and Julian Valenti added an impressive 73.  Day 2 the Senators dropped back to finish 2nd overall behind Pekin.  Peyton Woods who was 7th overall shot a 78. Jake Baldin added an 81.  James Oh carded an 83 and Julian Valenti with an 87.  The Senators look to carry this momentum into the CS8 tournament on Wednesday.  

Congratulations to the JV lady Senators volleyball team who won the Lutheran High volleyball tournament. Great job ladies.

The Springfield High School Girls Tennis Team participated in the Alton Invitational this past weekend.  In singles play, Nischi Korrapati placed third and Hayden Thongsithavong finished fourth.  The doubles teams of Sheelah Ingebrigtsen/Myla Shannon, Crystal Chen/KallyChen and Asianna Johnson/Nora Jasim each finished with 1-2 records.  Congratulations on a strong team performance.

Congratulations to the Girls Swimming and Diving team on their 7th place finish at the Charger Invite this weekend.  Top ten finishers were Isabella Cavanagh 9th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 Breaststroke.  Reese Jennings 8th in the diving.  Falyn Long 3rd in the diving, and   Abby Myers 8th in the 500 Free.  The girls will compete this Saturday at Eisenhower Pool against Edwardsville and SHG. 

Congrats to the football team on their 32-13 victory over UHigh in Normal on Friday night. The team was led on offense by Artez Hanson, Bryson Thomas, Kam Beckman, and Paul Hartman. On Defense, Kaleb Fowler, EJ Pruitt, and X'Zavon Delgado all had interceptions, and the defense as a whole had an outstanding effort. Great job players and coaches!
