After School Tutoring is held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week in room 160 from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm

CACC will have an Open House on January 25th from 5-7.  This is a great opportunity to tour the labs, meet the teachers, talk with current students, and see if CACC is where you want to be for your Junior and Senior year.

City spirit week themes are here! Tomorrow is Superhero’s vs Villians, and Friday is Gamer Day, dress as anything video games! Let’s kick off spirit week right and let’s show out at the BOS Center and keep the spirit award home with SHS.

Attention aspiring educators, the inaugural meeting of the SHS Future Teachers Club will be today after school in room 370. This club will highlight aspects of education while hearing from teachers and administrators throughout the district. We hope to see you there!

If you are interested in auditioning for the spring musical but did not make the meeting on Monday, please see Mrs. Mitchell in room 72 for audition information.

National Honor Society is ready to admit new members for the spring of 2024. Current 11th and 12th graders, who are not currently members of NHS, can apply. A list of eligible applicants is posted on Canvas, outside the Main Office, and outside rooms 153A and 356. Applications can be picked up with Mr. Kramer in 153A and will be due Thursday, Feb. 29. Any questions see Mrs. Taft or Mr. Kramer. 

Seniors it is the time of year where local scholarships become available. Be sure to constantly check the Class of 24 Canvas page for more opportunities. The Community Foundation for Land of Lincoln has 25 scholarships available to SHS students. Highlighted this week are four for students who demonstrate financial need. Check announcements and scholarship tab for all opportunities! 

Seniors, FAFSA is now fully open! FAFSA is a graduation requirement and the application or the waiver must be completed prior to graduation. Check Canvas announcements for more info. We will also host FAFSA completion nights on Jan. 25 and Feb 22 to assist you in the process. See Mr. Kramer with questions. 

This week, BAS wants to emphasize that Senators show Responsibility by holding themselves accountable for their actions. Don’t blame others or make excuses for your behavior. Instead, admit when you are wrong and try to make things right. Everyone makes mistakes, but Senators acknowledge when they are wrong and learn from it. Thank you for Being A Senator!

City t-shirts are in! If you ordered a set, you make pick them up in the Commons during both lunch shifts. There are a limited amount of extra sets, so if you missed the deadline, see Mr Kramer if you’d like to purchase one of the extras. Extras will be first to pay gets them.

Springfield Wrestlers were crowned City Champs on Friday for the third year in a row! The Senators defeated Southeast 56-21, Lanpher 57-18, and SHG 72-12.  Springfield had individual city champions at 9 of the 14 weight classes.  Going 3-0 on the night were Allan Rodriguez at 132, Gabe Ruvalcaba at 138, Bryce Bryant at 144, Cody Stevens at 150, Tez Williams at 165, Keyshaun Harris at 190, Alijah Altman at 215, Armanze Lewis at 285, and Alina Edwards at 106.  Alina is also the first girl to ever be crowned city champ from ANY school in city wrestling history!

Attention all boys and girls interested in track and field. Official practice for the 2024 season begins on Monday January 22nd at 3:30 in the annex! Please see Coach Cotner or Coach Hale if you have any questions, you can also find all information on the SHS track website! 

Congrats to the Scholastic Bowl team for their 1st place win at the Piasa Bird Tournament on Sat. Ethan Baima and Aryan Tokhi represented SHS on the all tournament team. Great job to all 3 teams.
