Good morning, Springfield High! Today is May 11, 2023

Students and families: Please know we treat everyone with respect and kindness, and keep this school safe. Any kind of threat and/or unacceptable joke will not be tolerated and will result in school discipline. Please remember to report any form of bullying and ask for help from an adult if you need it.

After school tutoring will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm in room 160.

There will be a football player/parent meeting on Monday, May 15th at 6:45 pm in the Commons. Please see Coach Hebb with any questions.

The PS5 raffle ticket sales have been extended. Get your tickets from any football player or Coach Hebb or Kramer. Winners will be drawn on May 19th. 

If you are interested in directing the fall play next school year, applications are available in Mrs, Eaton’s room 366 this week.

The Chess club will be meeting after school from 3:17 to 5:00 in Mr. Hull’s Room (Room 224)  tomorrow to host the end-of-the-year tournament! There will be a Competitive League and a Non-Competitive League, and all are welcome to come!

Mark your calendar — 7 & Senators auditions will take place on Monday, May 22nd at 4:00 pm in the Auditorium.

There will be a volleyball meeting on Wednesday May 24th after school in the cafeteria for girls who are interested in trying out for next year’s team. Summer schedule & Varsity Camp information will be distributed at the meeting.

The Senator softball team scored early and often in a 16-1, 4 Inning win over Rochester. Mia Volpert and Kendall Knauer paced the offense with 3 hits apiece, including a grand slam home run by Volpert and 3 RBI’s by Knauer. Liah ONeill, Emma Scheffler, Megan Bullock, Emma Marcum and Gabby Deller also had hits and RBIs to lead to. the the shortened game. The girls upped their record to 22 and 3 on the season and 14 and 2 in conference. Great job ladies! 

The baseball team lost a tough one to Rochester last night by the score of 3 to 2. Griffin Burk pitched well, but the Rockets outhit the Senators and deserved the win. Enrico Veach led the offense with 2 doubles and Seth Impson also chipped in 2 hits. Ryne Crum drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to account for the only RBI. Next up is a 4:30 home game today against Taylorville at Robin Roberts Stadium. 

The boys track and field team finished a strong 3rd place last night at the Central State Eight Conference track and field meet.  Top placers for Springfield High were: Bryson Thomas, 2nd in the 400; Finn Loken 2nd in the 3200; Kale Thurman 3rd in the high jump; Matthew Browning 3rd in the long jump; and Shamar Richardson placed 2nd in the discus.  The boys next compete at the Sectional track and field meet in Edwardsville on Wednesday.
