p4 mcneese physician prepatory pathway program

Last night, freshmen from Lanphier High School, Springfield Southeast High School and Springfield High School were proudly inducted into the P4: McNeese Physician Pipeline Preparatory Program and received their white coats! Members of District 186’s Cabinet and our High School Principals were on hand to celebrate and congratulate these students for embarking on this exciting journey.

Students enter P4 as high school freshmen and continue through their senior year, gaining an in-depth understanding of medical school coursework, admissions, critical thinking, and specialty training. In partnership with SIU Medicine , this four-year program offers a robust curriculum that includes:

  • Special lectures

  • Skills training

  • Job shadowing

    Lab skills

  • Problem-based learning (PBL)

  • College planning seminars

  • STEM instruction

  • Mentorship modeled after medical education

We’re also proud to highlight Kanicia Green, a Lanphier High School graduate and former P4 student who is now in her residency for OBGYN at the University of Cincinnati Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. Her journey is a testament to the program’s impact! Her uplifting and motivational message inspired the new P4 students, showing them what’s possible through hard work and dedication.

SIU Medicine physicians, research faculty, medical students, and District 186 educators lead these hands-on sessions, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future careers. We’re excited to watch our students grow in this incredible program!
