March 2023
Dear District 186 Families,
Our students take federally required state assessments every spring. These assessments help us understand what students have learned and what they need to learn next, according to the Illinois Learning Standards. This year your child will take two state assessments: The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) and the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). Both of these state assessments will take place at each elementary and middle school during the months of March and April.
In addition to state testing, your child will also take the district NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment in the month of May as they did last fall and this winter. If you haven’t already, you will soon receive your child’s Winter MAP scores. We are looking forward to seeing what our students have learned so far this year from all of these assessments.
As you work with your child and his or her school to prepare for these assessments, please know that our ultimate goal is to ensure that all students build upon their skills each year and show growth. Here are a few links that can provide more information on each assessment:

● ISA for Grades 5, 8, and 11: https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Ill...

We encourage you to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher(s) with any questions you may have about preparing your child(ren) for these assessments. Please also reach out if you have questions or concerns about academic growth overall. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child(ren)’s academic success.
Sincerely,
Dr. Nicole Nash Moody
