Parking map for Butler School

Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 9:00 am - 12 Noon

Dear Alumni, Parents and Current/Former Staff,

We are just a  week away from the Centennial Celebration on May 21, 2022. As you make plans to come to the event, please keep these things in mind:

PARKING

  1. Construction is still in progress. Our new North Addition is not yet completed, but may have a majority of exterior brick set by the time of the event. I highly doubt it will be open as a part of our school tour. It also has diminished the amount of available parking around the school.
  2. Parking could be a challenge.  Please allow spaces around the school to be filled by our older alumni who might have mobility problems.  Beyond those spaces, you will be able to park down Laurel and Dial Ct. If you are young and spry, you might even consider parking on Douglas or further down Dial Ct. and walking the one or two blocks to Butler.  Please do not park in business lots (La Bamba, Baskin Robbins, Pie’s the Limit).
  3. If you have special circumstances where you need parking close to the school, please contact me (DM on Facebook), email at dlcurry@sps186.org or you can call Butler (217-787-3189). We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs so you can attend.
  4. ALL volunteers working the event are asked to park in the lots marked "Volunteer & Additional Parking". (We have permission). This is also an area for additional parking at the time of the event for guests if needed.

EVENT

  1. School Tours- You will be able to tour the school. We will not have classrooms open, but doors will be open at Room 101 (old K room), Room 204 (former music room, library and teachers’ lounge) and Room 209 (old art room).  Teachers will have classroom projects in the hallways for you to enjoy.
  2. Our 1921 time capsule opening will be begin with a ceremony at 10:30 am on the front lawn. Following the ceremony, we will take the contents to the gymnasium for viewing and then open the 1995 time capsule from the 75th Anniversary.
  3. The gym will be the focal point of the event for things to see.  We will have shirt & book sales, 1932 brick pick up, Butler memorabilia, Garden Club, Butler history resources and of course, student projects on display.

MISC.

  1. If you haven’t already, please consider purchasing a custom brick for our future walkway and outdoor classroom space. Butler receives a percentage of each brick sale and your name will be a part of Butler history!

If you know of anyone connected to Butler School who may not be aware of the event, PLEASE let them know. Finally, in case of rain, we will still have our event. The time capsule ceremony will be moved to the gym. School tours will still take place. Pictures for groups will take place in front of the stage.
