Welcome Back Black Hawk Families,
I am excited to be starting the 2022-2023 school year with all of you. I am ready to see everyone, hear about your summer, and get back to learning.
As we prepare for this school year, I would like to share some information that you will need. All class lists will be posted Sunday, August 21st, by noon at the front entrance of the building on College Street. Then on August 22nd, we will have our first day of school. School officially starts at 9:00am, but students will be able to come in the building at 8:40a.m.. From 8:40-8:55am. students will be able to go to the cafeteria for breakfast and then go to their class line. Our dismissal time for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday is 3:30p and every Wednesday is a 2:30 dismissal.
Our dismissal procedures have changed since last school year. Car Riders and Walkers will be dismissed out the front of the building onto College Street. Grades K-2 will exit out the door by the K-2 hallway and Grades 3-5 will dismiss out the front entrance of the building. For the safety of our students, students and families will need to cross at the corner crosswalk if a car rider’s car is parked on the west side of College Street (facing south bound). Students and families will not be allowed to cross in the middle of the road.
On Wednesday, August 24th from 4:00-6:00p, we will have our Ice Cream Social Open House. We are inviting all families to come to school that night, have some ice cream, walk around the school, meet their student’s teachers, and learn about Title I. A Flyer to come!
For students returning to the building, it's going to look somewhat different. The construction crew worked hard all last school year, and all summer to get the building ready for the students to return and learn in the newly constructed spaces! We are excited to finally be able to use the new library, art room, music room, and all the other new learning spaces. The mobiles are gone!
At Black Hawk, we are truly a family, and we look forward to seeing many of you again, as well as getting to know all of you and your students that will be joining us this year. I look forward to watching your students grow academically, socially and physically. To see the joy on their faces when they get to see their classmates and teachers will be priceless.
Please contact the office if you have any questions (217-525-3195). We are now officially using the front entrance located on College Street to enter the building. Visitors will no longer be able to use the back entrance, it is for staff use only. Let the school year begin!
Sincerely, Stephanie McCorkle
