FACILITIES NAMING COMMITTEE NOTICE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Facilities Naming Committee of the Board of Education, Springfield School District No. 186, Sangamon County, Illinois, will accept nominations for the naming of both the track and football field located at Memorial Stadium. Nominations will be accepted through 12:00 p.m., noon, on Friday, March 3, 2023, through this form: https://forms.gle/2q3TLKjyKLXPvx126 or by scanning the QR code, at the bottom of this notice.
In keeping with Board Policy 450.09 - Naming of Facilities, which outlines requirements for the naming of District facilities, the following will be considered:
"Names may represent any living or deceased person who has made significant contributions to the district through longevity or service, exemplary leadership, philanthropic contributions or other significant means. Nominations will not be considered until three years after the service/retirement, contribution, or death of the individual.
All nominations for commemorative or honorary naming must be presented to the Superintendent or designee through a formal letter with the reasons for the request. A committee will be appointed by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Education. The committee has the responsibility to review any suggestions, study the impact of the requested recognition on the school, district, and community, and make recommendation(s) to the Board of Education of ways to best honor the individual nominated. The committee’s recommendation may reflect the wishes in the nominating letter, or the committee may suggest other methods of honoring the nominated individual."
FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Facilities Naming Committee of the Board of Education, Springfield School District No. 186, Sangamon County, Illinois, will convene a meeting on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. in the Board Room, 1900 W. Monroe Street, Springfield, Illinois. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and develop a recommendation, which will be presented to the Board of Education for their consideration at a future meeting.
Members of the Board of Education may be in attendance at the Facilities Naming Committee meeting on March 13, 2023. However, this is not a meeting of the Board of Education.
