Today marked a historic moment as Superintendent Jennifer Gill, Board of Education, Principal Artie Doss, Interim Principal Alicia Miller, Lanphier Admin & staff, O'Shea Builders, BLDD Architects, The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and many other leaders in our community gathered with alumni and friends for a momentous ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Lanphier High School ((Click to see pictures)
The excitement was contagious as we witnessed everyone's joy and awe at the beauty of the space. And that wasn't all - tonight, we celebrated another milestone as Lanphier hosted its very first basketball game in the new Lober-Nika Gymnasium. Despite the chilly temperatures, the crowd poured in, creating an atmosphere of pure perfection - a blend of good spirit, fresh space, and fantastic basketball!
Though the Lions Varsity may have ended up losing tonight's game 54-55 to Lincoln, the spirit and energy in the new gymnasium were unbeatable. Every moment was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and the thrill of being part of history.
Here's to new beginnings, amazing spaces, and the resilient spirit of Lanphier! Let's continue to create memories and build on the legacy of our school.
We know how much this means to the Northside and we look forward to inviting the public for an open house tour and viewing of the building later this spring. There is still ongoing construction and demolition of buildings that will continue through the summer in the early fall.
This dream, which is now a reality, is a testament to the power of our community. YOU made this happen! The 1% sales tax increase, championed by voters, has paved the way for projects like this to come to life. Lanphier High School's metamorphosis is just the beginning, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for District 186!.
