AVID Central Division Program Manager, Cindy Gordon, visited Wilcox Elementary this morning as part of her observation of District 186.
Tracy Gage, District 186 Director of School Leadership & AVID and Nicole Moody, District 186 Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and School Culture helped guide the tour along with Principal Erica Filipiak. There were so many wonderful interactions with students and educators along the way.
She was shown all of the wonderful things Wilcox is doing around our district's goals of relational capacity and organizational tools, like our student's AVID binders.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career-going system in grades K-12. Through the use of critical thinking, collaboration, reading, writing, relationship building, and a growth mindset, students establish a belief in themselves, develop confidence, and persist through obstacles to achieve their goals.
