PARENTS AS TEACHERS
What is Parents as Teachers?
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a FREE parent education program in the Springfield Public School District for prenatal families and families with children ages 0-3. PAT is grounded in the belief that parents are their child's first teacher and their home is a child's first classroom.
There are four components to the Parents as Teachers model:
Personal Visits
Group Connections
Resource Network
Child Screening
Together, these four components work to:
Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parent practices.
Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues of children.
Prevent child abuse and neglect.
Increase children's school readiness and success.

Vision and Mission Statement
Vision
All children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.
Mission Statement
To provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life so that they can start school eager to learn and ready to succeed.
Developmental Screenings
What is a developmental screening?
Developmental screenings offer parents a snapshot at how their child is learning and growing. Screenings will cover the areas of: Social/Emotional Development, Problem Solving, Physical Development, Health, Vision, Hearing, and Communication.
Why should your child be screened?
Screenings help determine whether or not a child is developing within the normal range based on his/her age.
Who is screened?
Screening is provided to all enrolled families with children ages 3 months to 3 years old.
Please note that these screenings do not replace those that would be done as part of a regular check up with your doctor
