CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Springfield Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department provides opportunities for high school students to learn about careers and to provide specific technical education. Courses are offered at each of the three high schools so that students have the opportunity to explore career options in business and technology, family and consumer science, health occupations, and even real world work experiences while earning credits towards graduation. Career Cruising Website

This site allows students to learn more about colleges and careers. Students can also take a career matchmaking (interest) survey and a learning style inventory.

Each school has a username and password. Once a student enters the site, he or she can create a portfolio and have access to their information for two years after their high school graduation date.

Students have access to on-line practice for standardized tests. The program has the following areas for students to practice their skills:

College Credit

Dual Credit
Students in District #186 have the opportunity to earn college credit for some classes taken while in high school. In dual credit classes, students earn high school and college credit for classes approved through a process called articulation. The letter grade earned is recorded on the high school transcript as well as on the transcript at LLCC. This credit may be transferable to other colleges/universities, but is subject to the approval of the college/university to which it is being transferred. Only juniors and seniors can receive Dual Credit and must earn a grade of C or better. Forms are distributed during the first month of class and must be returned to receive the credit. DUAL CREDIT Dual credit may be earned for the following classes: Keyboarding 200/204/205 Computer Applications I 306 Computer Applications II 306 Accounting II 436
